What you will gain!

Theatre etiquette
Students will work to a performance level and learn the skills needed to work within theatrical requirements. This will cover many aspects including; theatrical terms (upstage/downstage etc.); use of props and costumes; projecting voices and learning parts.

Beginner dance technique, singing technique and acting techniques
Such as how to do dance turns and runs.  Vocal exercises and breathing technique.  Theory and reasoning behind why we do what we do will be taught to support these techniques.

Problem Solving Skills
A skill you can never have enough of! Through creating stage work, students are presented with a number of problems, in the planning and rehearsing phase, and while performing. Drama, dance and singing all allow the student to work in a safe environment to develop these skills. Being able to think your way through a scenario, and work out how things will look/sound when they are produced. Developing problem solving skills along with way during improvisation and while in performance.

Developing Communication and Language Skills
Students work with script and improvisation.  Through this they can experiment with language, body language and communication in different situations.  These skills help with confidence to express feelings and ideas and build social skills.

Physical activity
Students will be encouraged to keep fit and will be presented with dance numbers to do, as well as learn how to choreograph themselves. Students will aim to increase their coordination, balance, strength and flexibility.

Building Imagination and Creativity

The ability to imagine and think outside of the square, these are skills which can be developed through creating characters, dancing, acting out new situations and the use of voice to further extend the creative elements.

Empathy
Character based exercises help students think about how that character might feel in different situations. The classes will work on real life situations such as bullying, receiving an award, different family situations. Empathy is an extension on building social awareness in children; students learn to put themselves in another person’s ‘shoes’ to identify the feelings, ideas and attitudes of that character and the ones around them. This extends back to critical thinking and problem solving.

Children’s confidence
The classes will aim to find and promote each individual's strengths, as well as work on all other aspects of performing. Through accomplishing tasks, rehearsing and performing, children will gain confidence in social settings as well as in the performance arena. All while fostering an appreciation of singing, dancing, acting, music and text.
